In a recent educational excursion, our first-grade students had the opportunity to visit a textile mill and witness the fascinating journey of cotton transforming into beautiful cushion covers. The adventure began at the spinning wheel, where they marvelled at the intricate process of cotton being spun into yarn. The young learners continued their exploration as they observed skilled weavers using a weaving machine to transform the thread into long, exquisite pieces of fabric. Next, they witnessed the precise art of cutting this fabric into small sections, each carefully shaped to create the foundation for pillowcases. These sections were deftly stitched together to form a sturdy base layer. Their journey continued as they observed the meticulous process of sewing the pillow covers, adding an extra layer of craftsmanship to the mix. But the journey didn't end there; it was off to the packaging unit, where the students watched as cushion covers were filled with polyfill, expertly sewn, and neatly prepared for packaging. The final step was equally intriguing, as the cushion covers were placed in a vacuum compressor, which expertly reduced their size for more convenient storage. The neatly compressed covers were then thoughtfully packaged, with each packet containing a set of five cushion covers. This enlightening experience gave our young scholars a firsthand look at the world of textiles, from raw materials to the final product, and highlighted the skill and precision that go into creating the cosy cushion covers we cherish.
